Rounding numbers
Today in room 1 we are rounding numbers to the nearest 10,100,1,000 and 10,000,000 and we want to share how to do it.
One of the question was 63 and we had to round it to the nearest 10 so we look at the 3 and see if it is behind 4 or not it is so we turn the 3 into a 0 and keep the 6 so that equals 63.
We did a few of these and we did hundreds thousand and millions. The hardest was the thousands with numbers like 798,562,459 that took a long time to write out and figure out the answer but we did it.

Room 1's first weeks at school
Room 1 has had fun in their first weeks at school,we have gone swimming and we have stared singing. We love our new teacher Miss Dower she is a really lovely teacher. We have already done a lot of work, we have been getting some homework and now mathletics is available so that is room 1's maths homework for the week.
Coming up is the bake sale, that is going to be a delicious and yummy day. Also the swimming carnival is nearly here, that is going to be a splashie day and a very hot day we all hope. We have gone to music two times, I think we have done better in music this year. Room 1 loves music because you get to learn all sorts of things and we get to play instruments.
Every Tuesday we go to the library and we get out 4 books. Our librarian Susie has put a tunnel in our school library that is lots of fun to crawl through.I have enjoyed the first few weeks of this year.
Zombie zone
It was Friday the day of the family picnic I was so excited. I was one of the first ones to get into the zombie zone. It was awesome becaus we went from a tunnel then we had to grab a gun and shoot the zombies. Then we had to run to the torch, one pulled me back so I sat down then got back up. I went in 9 times. I think they dressed up so cool, my favourite one was the joker.

Family Picnic
Was a beautiful afternoon for our family picnic and so lovely to see so many of our families there.
Well done to all our brave students who entered the zombie zone and came out the other end in one piece!
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and are planning a lovely relaxing weekend.

Bugsy
Bugsy is a one eyed red and black stuffed toy monster that lives in room one. He is taken home for the weekend as a reward for people who have finished
all their work and have behaved well all week. So far Jack and Zoe have been lucky enough to take him home. Each person who takes him home writes a story about what adventures they got up to over the weekend. Bugsy has already been to a birthday party, watched sailing, played Hide and Seek, gone to a Sushi restaurant and learnt how to use Chopsticks! Bugsy is cute and fluffy and one day we hope to take him home

Rm1s music class
At music class today Mrs Bevan was teaching us a lot of stuff about music.
First we started of with some easy rhythm and then we got to get out some instruments and start playing songs she wrote on the board.
When all the instruments played together it sounded really nice like the harmony of the universe!
Oh! It's time for singing bye!

iSnack
In the senior school we have been having iSnack. Thank's Mrs Wood, at 9:45am every day we have a healthy snack e.g carrot's, half an apple, a sandwich etc. This has been going on for the past 2 week's. The reason we do this is to keep our brain's going as we do get hungry through the morning especially the ones who don't have breakfast in the morning or someone who put's a lot of sugar in their bowl. Kid's will not be able to bring junk food as it's suppose to be a healthy snack.

Kind, creative and sharing
Lover of cats, animals, sea animals and having fun
Who is able to swim and sing
Who feels happy when playing with her friends
Who wonders why there are volcanoes in New Zealand
Who fears nothing
Who would like to be a singer and a teacher
Who dreams of singing and teaching

First Day Back
First Day Back
Monday 3 February
first day back at HPS, we were all excited to meet each other and see who our
new teacher. Our teacher is Miss Dower she is a really kind teacher and we
think everybody likes Miss Dower
We were also
excited to see our friends at school because in the holidays we have fun but
you always miss your friend. When you first go back to school you have a very
fun time seeing new classmates and teachers. It can lead you to new friends
Also on the first
day of school we went swimming in the school pool. It was fun because we were
all boiling hot and it was our first time swimming with our new class. Room 1
loves swimming but the pool is really cold it takes us about 5 minutes to get
in the pool because it is that cold. It was time to get out so we all get into
our clothes quickly.
We all don’t want
the day to end but it was almost 3 o’clock so we all had to pack up. Then the
bell will ring and we all say bye to our friends and go home.

them time to prepare for learning and play with friends.
Please could you make sure your child brings all their named
stationery to school on the first day of Term.
Your child will also need to have a pencil case to store their pencils,
glue, rubber, pens, scissors etc in to help keep them together. This needs to
be able to fit inside their desk tray so please make sure it’s not too big J
