My day at the zoo

When it was time to go to school on Monday, I was excited. The day had come! I packed my bag, thinking about how much fun it would be. When I reached school, I spent the start of the day thinking about the trip. 

        I stepped into the classroom. Miss Dower did the roll and we waited for the bus to come. When the bus came, we sat in it and did our own things while waiting to reach.

When we reached, we got split up into groups. I was in Angela's group. we got to look around before going to the central part of the zoo to meet up. We looked at some of the animals, such as baboons (which apparently have red butts), tigers and elephants. WOW! they were so big!

10 a.m. It was time to meet at the central park. Peng helped us find the way using the map. We ate morning tea there.

After morning tea, we got to have some more time to look around. we wanted to see the red pandas but they would not let us (for some reason), so we went to look at the Sumatran tigers instead.

Our time is up! we went to the rare animals enclosure. I did not see a Morepork but at least I saw a Kiwi.

That is the end of my trip to the zoo! Thank you! 

my narative about lego

yesterday i woke up as a yellow person and the world was made out of bricks.the sea was made of blue studs and my mum's car was made out of bricks my first thought of the world was.....minecraft umm lego thats it.im lego!!!!!!!this is good but i cant feel my hair because its plastic!! i had some holes in me which was extremley crazy i coudn't belive i was lego for a day i mean im lego everthing is lego the world is lego this is crazy its like a dream but so real cause im already awake! so it cant be a dream its real and unbealevable! andre was thinking the same as me.THIS IS CRAZY! and unbeleavable.

Girls Dance

This year the seniors decided to have a girl dance it was a pretty good dance we proformed on our proforming arts night our song was jessie j price tag. Our costume was pretty funny it was a black and white skirt and a white singlet black pants a swag hat and price tags hanging off our hats we all wore loom bands. We were so nerveous but when we got up there we were having such a good time. When we finished the croud clapped very loud and we all couldn't belive we did that in frount of everyone.

the first day at camp!

It was camp! We were all very excited! We had to wake up really early because we did not want to be caught in the traffic.We were going to a small city called Matamata which is near rotorua .
It took a really long time to get there it seems like hours and hours!
But we finally got there.

We got our luggage out of the bus and headed to the direction of the cabins so we could settle in and put our bags down.Then it was morning tea. We each lined up to get a cookie and a piece of fruit.Then the teachers said to all of us to get ready for our first activities my groups were
kayaking!I was nervous, but at the same time excited! It got really wet but did quite well and we were all really exusted, and was happy it was lunch!After lunch we got free time.Every one rushed for the hydro slide! It was soooooo fun. We went down so many times we lost count!
there was also the hot pools where most of the adults went to relax in.
then shortly after it was delicious dinner! We got to wear P'Js's when we ate which was a bit weird at first.
Then we had a movie night. we watched Dispicable me.then we went to bed.

SNOOOOOOORE!!!!!!!

The Zoo

On Monday the Senior and Middle school went to the ZOO! There was a lot of traffic so it was pretty boring. The traffic was like a herd of hungry elephants, finally the traffic disappeared in the city so we were free to go. We were all excited to see all the animals, I was looking forward to seeing the seals. We all got out and sat in our class and had a talk about where not to go and the rules of the zoo.

I was with Miss Dower and Aidan, Reisan, Jadyn, Mitchell and we also had Miss Lister, Miss Wright and some pupils from room 3. The teachers were having trouble when it was time to go so we called ourselves The Avengers. Everybody chose the Hulk, Miss Dower chose the Human Torch of Fantastic Four, I was Iron Man and Rayne was Black Widow because she was the only girl in the group.

The first animal we saw was the Giraffes there were two baby Giraffes that chased each other in there enclosure. Then we saw the Zebras they were Zoes favourite. We went through all the african animals and headed to the deers and Rhinos. There horns were as sharp as a razor blade. It wasn't that amusing to see a big thing just sir there eating, so we moved on  s

room 1's camp

In week there of May, Aidan and I went on camp. When we arrived we unpacked and went to our cabins and we assembled in our activity groups. Aidan did kayaking first down the river. He went down first. The current was really strong.Marcus managed to get up the current. abseiling wasn't a problem at all after I got the hang of it . I thought the go karts were wicked .They were quite fast and had good handling.The next day me and adian decided to go on the waterslide  I did a train with Henry and Thomas  the Oder we went in went like this Me,Henry and Thomas .We went up the coners and fast on the straights really quickly .The day after that the waterslide was closed so I went in the hot pool . Later we packed up and went home I went home in my mum's car adian went home in the bus.He had to let the sick kids out to spew. He had a sad jounery back and that was 2014 room 1's camp trip

THE BEST CAMP EVER

Hi our names are Kyla and Sahej  

On Tuesday room  1, 2, 3, 4, and 9  went on camp. Mrs Wood, our teacher told  us to get in our activity

groups then get on the bus. We were all so excited we had to first say good bye to our parents then we went. It was so fun on the bus because..... After a long bus ride we finally got there!

At the zoo

On Monday room1 went to the zoo. First we had to call the roll then we got into our group I was with Alex, Andre, and Christopher. After we got into our groups we lined up outside and went on the bus I sat next to Alex we played apple on a stick. After that we just talked we finally got there. When we got we got there we sat down in our lines and talked about some rules. After that we got to look around we first looked at the zebras and the Giraffes

Take Off!!!

"Ooh Ahh'' Mr B was lifting a piece of what looked a bit like a tissue. It was actually made out of plastic called Nano-fiber which sticks to human skin like tape. We got to hold couple of items like a square shaped figure which was bulletproof, we all stared in amazement as a bullet had been shot straight into it not a scratch or mark just a hole. Facts and facts flew past us.

 Then Mr B pulled out a rocket with the word AMAZON written on the side "Alright" said Mr B "We are going to go outside and I'm going to show you how a real rocket works." The room flooded with excitement. Rushing out the door the senior school filled with joy.  We took our shoes off and we placed them outside of our class. We gathered on the field standing 5 meters away from the rocket. We started with a countdown 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 the rocket shot off like a bullet heading towards the sky.

The parachutes nose popped off and the parachute deployed leaving a trail of smoke. We surrounded the rocket and leaking out was the smoke.

I was at the cafe just bought a fat pack i started opening it first pack was good second pack was better and third was epic and so on i got in my car to go to my local game store in the corner there was a $5 deck so why not i bought it i got back in my car and opened it "wow! a $50 dollar card" i yelled and once again "wow" there were really expensive cards "the whole deck could be worth $1000" i said to my self i was going home and went to bed the deck started to shake in the middle of the night I woke up and saw it making a portal I tried to run out of the house but the portal pulled me in and I was gone the portal turned into a spark then dust I woke up in a swamp I heard twigs snap "ROAR!" I made a run for it a giant beast was behind me called a godsend I jumped over a log the godsend roared again I then fell in a pool the godsend stopped and roared in the middle of the roar the godsend fell into the pool garruk apex predator stood there I ran in a cave garruk was gaining on me i made a fire on a stick and threw it at garruk I walked back garruk grabbed his axe and went to smash me but before he smashed me a legendary person came and saved my life her name is elspeth she blocked the axe with her sword I ran deeper in the cave but i saw light i went towards it it was a short cut to ravnica i had no choice i ditched elspeth and went to ravnica 


Great story Dino, what a creative imagination you have! I love how you have used speech marks and punctuated them correctly.

Rockets

On Tuesday a man who designed rockets came in and showed us his model rocket. First he set up the launch pad then put the cables together, then he did a 10 second countdown and then zoom the rockets shoot 60 feet of the ground in a second. Then the parachute popped out. It hurt your ears when it shot up into the sky. It smelt like Rotorua after it landed, the rocket only worked once. I can't wait to design my rocket I'm very excited. James and I are designing our rockets on Friday. I wanted to have a small rocket but  there was a restricted height, half a meter so I had to extend my design because it wasn't tall enough. James is doing well on his design. He made his design quite well.

3! 2! 1! BLAST OFF Reisan&Mitchell

At school there was this tall guy he was holding a gigantic plastic box, "I wonder what's in there?" questioned Mitchell. When the guy was staring at him, a couple of minutes later he pulled all these different stuff out of a smaller cardboard box and everybody was so interested in the stuff but then every thing got A LOT better  when he pulled out a AWESOME MINIATURE ROCKET, and when he said he was going to launch the rocket and wooooh everybody  screamed. 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 BLAST OFF we all screamed as the rocket fired into the air with a boom there was a trail of smoke behind it.We had so much fun watching the rocket

ROCKETS!!!

On Tuesday 28th of october 2014 a guy from nasa came to Howick Primary to talk about spaceships. he gave us tips on how to make rockets. later on we launch a small rocket it shot up sixty meters and slowly parachuted back to the ground.it smelt like rotten eggs we all ran up to the smokey rocket it was letting out a massive cloud of smoke it was so interesting to learn about space crafts and how to make them.

At the moment senior and middle school people having been working hard to practice there routene for there gymastics competion. I'm in gymastics and its better hard to practice our routene this fast we only have four more practices to go until the real thing. Most of us know the route but some are still getting there. Also when we first started gymnastics all of us didn't know what we were doing and it was scarie doing a route that you didn't know, and doing it in front of everyone. When we all knew what we were doing it wasn't that scarie. We also had a lot of encouragement from our friends/ class mates and of crouse our teachers. There is one thing in gymnastics that is really hard and everyone gets stuck on it is jumping onto the beam with your feet not your nees but I think most of the girls have learnt it fast. Also so e girls a lunch time have a go at teaching the middle school people so they know there route well enough to preforme thank you for lies ting to my story

Zombies

Once upon a time there was a scientist called Aidan he was trying a formula on a person called Reisan but it turned him in a zombie a the world got infected in a week.

There was four boys left Baylin,Jadyn,Chris and Mitchell they had to get weapons plus food and water.The first night was brutal they had to sleep in a school in room 1.Zombies were  moaning and moaning so in the morning Mitchell was gone and there was blood outside everywhere.Later they took a walk and found a litter letter in there walk it said "yous a are all doomed"from Zombo boss.

So the night came so they fought and Baylin died like a bug getting  squashed in seconds.So Chris and Jadyn killed some zombies but could not make a cure.Plus Zombo boss rules Ho ha ha ha ha.

At camp was the best time of our lives this year. The activities we did were Ab Sailing, Flying Fox, Archery, Kayaking, Team Rescue, Crate Climbing and Go Carting. 

JADYN:The best time for me was the hydro slide. People said to me that the superman position makes you go the max speed. I will tell you the positions you can do the star fish position,  the superman position, the sitting position. How you do the sitting position is you sit down on the slide and while your sliding you have to spread out your arms on the sides of the slide.

I also enjoyed crate climbing I enjoyed it because it was a big challenge for me.ROCK CLIMBING.Rock climbing was also a big challenge it was nearly as hard as crate climbing there were three sessions easy, medium, and hard.I started at medium because easy looked to easy but there was another reason why I started at medium, the reason was I thought I was ready to start at medium, starting at easy is over the hard one was a big challenge except I thought I was going to fall because I kept on forgetting that the parent helper was holding me on the rope. I REALLY HOPE THAT I CAN GO TO CAMP ANOTHER TIME =).   

Douw:
My Most favorite activity was Archery along with ab sailing and rock climbing and really all the other ones. I really enjoyed camp and will want to sertenly go again. And I recommend going

On the 28th  of July the senior school went to the Zoo. We were looking at animal adaptation and why they suit their habitat.

I was with Zoe's dad Justin, Kiara, James and Marcus. First we went to see the Zebras and Giraffes I named the tallest one Tallie. Of course Zoe did the zebras. Her favourite one is the smallest one, I have no idea why.

Next we went to see the lions, we saw three, they were all girls. Then we saw the flamingos,  Zoe took a photo of them.

The Holidays

Friday was finally the holidays it was two weeks so let the fun begin. So at the end of the day everyone was running and screaming. The first thing I did in the holidays was going to Eden Park which was Blues vs Cheifs. It was a 1 hour drive when me, my brother and mum and dad got there it was a 15 minute walk because we park so far. When we got there I could see the whole stadium there were so many lights. At the start I got fries and a burger and sprite. At the end of the game Cheifs won 13-16. I cheered for Blues. The next thing I did was go to watch the Transformers Age Of Extinction at the movies. It was so cool we eat pop-corn, chips, and ice-cream. The next thing I did was going to Parakai Springs. It was like a swimming place there were two slides. I went on both of them 15 times and there was an inside pool and outside pool. The last thing I did was going to the motel there were hot pool and a big pool which was inside. But me, my cousin, sister, and grandma got scared because there was a power cut so we went back in the motel. For dinner we had burgers and hot chips.

my adventure on camp

Camp

I was so excited to go on camp! When I got  there I was amazed it was nothing like I imagined but it was still as awesome as I thought. Anyway we went to our cabin my cabin was 1c at Totara springs. The first activity my group did was crate climbing we were only allowed to do 10 crates because there was not enough time. After crate climbing we got into our pjs and went out for dinner. It was yum. After dinner it was bed it was a bit earlier than my normal bed time but that doesn't matter because we got a few minutes  to talk. In the morning we had about 10 minutes to get ready and go to our activity. My cabin group is Kiara, Gabby, Alex, Rayne and  Marcia where all best friends. Me and Gabby are the only year 5 and were the bestest friends forever. After our first activity we did another activity then we had some morning tea it was cookies yum yum. After morning tea was another activity I forgot what it was but it was still fun because they were all fun but my favorite one isn't actually an activity   it's the hydro slide and one that is an activity the flying fox both of them I was scared at first but I did them and had the time of my life. CAMP WAS AWESOME!

A contraction is two words that join together to make a shorter word (eg. was + not = wasn't). Can you please go back through your blog and see if you can add the apostrophes in the correct place.

the best game ever of soccer hip hip ha ray

 On Friday the 1st of august  Howick primary had a soccer game against another school that I have no idea what there name is. They were easy at the beginning and then at the second half they were getting harder we tied 0-0 me and Aaron were getting tired because we didn't go off because we love soccer i as mid-field and Aaron was striker it was so fun i think that that was our last game. We switched goalie in the first half we had Quinn and in the second half we had Douggie he is the best in the school he saved all the goals we are happy to have him in our school without the goal keepers we would be in trouble and definitely lose all our games but my friend Henry was a winger he was left wing that was a fun game because we did not lose for once hip hip ha ray hip hip ha ray but sadly we lost all the other games. we should have won 10-0 to us i think our team is pretty good

crazy critters by Peng

We're making our own crazy critter in the afternoon. We are painting our background and we need to draw our crazy critters and use oil pastels to colour in. We need to write a short sentence about what your crazy critter eats, what are its enemies. Then we need to cut it out and then we glue the crazy critter on the background. Then the teacher helps us to glue our writing under the background, and then glue our crazy critter's background on a piece of big black paper, then we're done!

Miss Dower: Great story Peng. I love how you have included an exclamation mark - well done. I have highlighted some missing capital letters. Can you please edit this to show where the capital letters should be (at the start of a sentence).

Every Thursday after morning tea, Room 1 goes to Lloyd Elsmore swimming pool for swimming lessons. We go there and back by bus. We are taught by swimming instructers. Each group swims in a lane.   

                                                                                                                                                                                 

Crazy Critters

Room 1 has been busy creating our beautiful crazy critters. We thought of two animals that in the same environment and combined them together to make a new animal. Next we learnt how to use our paint brush for effect and painted the habitat our animal lives in. It was great fun dabbing and flicking with our brush and we blended our colours together. Our backgrounds look amazing!

After that we sketched the outline of our crazy critter on an A4 piece of paper. We learnt how to blend colours using oil pastels. We used pastels to colour our critter and blended the colours together. Our last step it to cut out our critter and glue them onto our backgrounds. Then put our writing with them.

We can't wait to show everyone once they are done :)

Whales Reading Aloud

The Whales have been looking at how they read aloud and what they could improve on before their speeches next term. Here is a recording they made on Educreations of them reading their book aloud. They then created a reading goal based on what they heard.

We had so much fun wearing our pj's to dinner every night! Room One loves wearing our onesies.

Sgraffito Art

Hi, 

In Room 1 we did Sgraffito Art. Now you're probably wondering what that is?

Its a coloured  background with black paint over top. This is how you do it. First you colour your background with pastel, next you paint over with black so you can't see the pastel. When the paint is dry you get something to scratch it with. You can now draw what ever you want. We drew our favourite animal. My animal was a dolphin, we had to do its footprints but a dolphin does not  have feet so we did the sea. I chose dolphins because I love them. We had to draw an animal because we are learning about animal migration and why they migrate. Some migrate because its to cold (like birds) some migrate because they have to hatch babies or zebras migrate because they find fresh grass and food. They look fantastic up on our wall. I like the zebra, swan and tiger, you know what I like all of them. Room 1 put in tons of effort on them. Please try it yourself it was lots of fun!

Sgraffito Art

In room 1 we have been doing art called sgraffito art. You have to colour in the whole page rainbow with pastels then paint it black. Next you get a tooth pick and start scratching out your picture. I'm crazy about zebras and our class is learning about animal migration. On my picture I've included my name in big bold letters and my room number which is room 1. We also included the animals foot prints and made sure the animals name is on it just so people know what your animal is. Mine is a zebra people might say mine is a horse or donkey but it's not. Just try it, it seems boring but once you start it it's amazing. You don't have to do it about an animal you can do anything. I chose to do a zebra because as I told you before I'm insane with zebras I know everything about them. When people come in our class, they are usually the first piecesof art they look at. If you think it will be fun try it, just trust me, the zebra lover!

My first day at School

On the first day of school, I came to school and met some of my classmates. I did not know they were my classmates because it was my first day. Next, we went into the class and Miss Dower did the roll. I had a great time at school.

When I got home, I couldn't wait to tell my parents about my day at school. They were surprised as well! I said, "This school is better than the school in Singapore." My mother told me that this school is called Howick Primary. I had a good day, and there was another waiting tomorrow.

Camp: Day One

What a great start to camp, nice weather, no one was sick on the bus and ALL the kids are asleep! All the groups did their first activity this afternoon and then had free time to warm up in the heated pool or go down the hydro slide. Our first dinner was chicken and rice with apple pie for dessert - YUM!

This evening the groups raced to build the highest tower out of paper straws. They all worked amazingly together and managed to build some super high towers - taller than the kids.

Snakey Comes to Room One

One the last day of term we were very lucky to have Snakey a blue tongue lizard come and visit Room One. Everyone had a turn at holding him. We tried to get him to eat a snail but he wasn't hungry.

Today Room 1 discovered that Mr Potato Head came out in 1949. It was originally sold as parts that you pushed into an actual potato! We watched the original tv ad below and then created our own Mr Potato Head. Check out our creations below.

Money dose grow on tree

Money tree with $100 bill for leaves is cause of farmer mysterious and sudden weather. 

The farmer Jason was up north in our beloved New Zealand. The farmer Jason has found a money tree in this orchid today. 

He was suddenly rich, but everyone wants his money so he had to get a safe and get all of the money tree leaves and put it in the safe. Guards had to look after the safe because people are trying to break into it. 

The farmer said he thought the tree was growing because some poison went on some money. "The tree keeps on growing and growing every time the money leaves have been take off!" said farmer Jason.

If you have money it grows and grows every time you take on of the leaves off the money tree. "What will do with the money farmer Jason?" I will use the money to buy some food and give some to the poor people." What a kind man.

Money Does Grow on Trees!!!

Money trees with $100 bills for leaves is cause of farmers mysterious and sudden wealth.
Bad news! Weird farmer grows money tree after he went to a bingo night in town, he came back with only $1!

He threw the $1 in the dirt. Suddenly a money tree popped up. Mr farmer fainted looking at the money tree in his farm. Mr farmer says "This is awesome just pulling money off trees so plant $1 to get rich!"
Iris says "People are getting lazy just planting money trees and not working, I say we destroy all money trees!!!"

Mr farmer is grouchy about Iris's opinion. But he also says "People are getting so lazy they don't want to plant money trees and they are stealing my money leaves from my trees lets stop this!" People are voting and chanting "Let it go on" or"Let this stop!"all over town.

Voting line people can ring to have their vote.
Saturday we will have the results.

If you've been watching  the hit show "mornings with Matt" you may have noticed that Matt is a bit green and bleeding a lot and bumping into things. Scientists say why "a kid believes that he saw something  attacking him backstage same with other people  having similar problems".

Scientists  say it could be a zombie Apocalypse ,it could be the end of the  world. Some of us could be next on the dead side ragging for flesh and that could be our future. For years no one could possibly believe it but now people are arming their houses, vehicles and precious stuff to the max because it could be the end of the world. 

Just one zombie bite could change the world . The kid said "the whole thing just happened!" The hunting store manager says "we're  running out of stock because the gun making factory has been raided recently this could be the end"

Advice: block windows and doors with steal and wood and gather supplies.

Swim Safety

Room 1 were really lucky to have a turn with the lifejackets in our school pool. We have been looking at safe entrance into the pool and some other swim safety skills.

Bake Sale

On the 6th of March the whole class went to the BAKE sale. In the morning a lot of people brought money to school. When we got there, the baking was from Room One mum's and other mums. When I saw the food we went on a rampage for a lot of stuff, like James, he got five things. It was exciting. Kiara looked like she really loved it. The bake sale was in the hall and there were 3 tables of food from everyone. THANK you for baking!

Capital letters

Connections

Today we started our new connections theme. During this theme we will be exploring the link between past and present. Closer to our 50th Jubilee we will be investigating the story of Howick and the story of our primary school.

If you know anyone who could help us discover the story of Howick, please let me know, we would love to have a guest speaker.

Blenz Cricket Day and Family Fun Day

On Thursday 27th February Vivian from Blenz came to school to pick me up and off to town we drove.  We got to the venue and I was allowed to play on the playground while waiting for the rest of the children to arrive.  When everyone was there we went inside to a huge room that was set up with some nets.  We got into groups, we called my group The Excellent Thunderbolts.  We started bowling a special ball that had something inside it that would rattle when it was rolled so those who couldn't see could hear where the ball was heading.  After some practice we started a game for fun.  We had to use the cricked bat to hit the ball as hard as we could, we didn't have to run, just hit the ball.  I managed to hit the ball every time!

On Sunday the 2nd March my family and I went to a Family Fun Day at Blenz.  When we got there I saw a petting zoo which had one pig, a few little goats and some sheep.  We were allowed in the pen with them and could pat them. Next my parents and I went to get a sausage from the Sausage Sizzle which was free, we also had Chocolate Milk and Chocolate ice cream which was delicious.  After lunch there was a lady that said "Whoever would like a ride in a Porche car please come to me".  I decided that sounded like great fun.  All the cars were lined up and I got into a red Porche.  The driver took me for a ride out to the airport and back which took about 20 minutes, it was nice talking to the driver but we weren't allowed to go fast as we were in traffic.  I felt very happy and lucky to get a ride in such an expensive car.  After a great day it was time to head home.  We were all feeling very tired.
